Art By Kevin Trotter

We did very well at the Southport Art show. Not only did we sale more art than any previous show, but I was commissioned to do an oil painting of a beautiful bed and breakfast in Southport. I was also asked if I would be interested in representation by a gallery (I’m not, but it’s nice to be asked from time to time). It was a joy to have so many people identifying the boats in my painting and listening to their sea-faring stories. This was the best show that I’ve had to date and I was on cloud nine.

My joy was short lived, however. Upon returning home, I learned that my Grandfather had passed the night before. I’m asked frequently at shows when I started painting. I then tell them the story of when he gave me my first set of oil paints, brushes and canvas at the age of eight. I believe this was a turning point in my life. He was very proud of me and my artwork. I’m told he has everything I’ve sent him hanging in his apartment. My Grandfather was larger than life and I’m deeply saddened. I will miss you Grandpa...
